What's your religion?

My religion is Buddhism. As a Chinese, I also believe in the Chinese Gods. They do exist, really. There are no reasons or answers. If you're a sincere believer, then you'll find that they really DO exist. But I prefer to call myself a Buddhist. I wear my Buddhist pendant all the time. With that, I can feel the presence of Lord Buddha, protecting me from being harmed at all times. In conclusion, Buddhism is a harmonious and tolerant religion. No animal sacrifices is allowed in the religion. That's why most Buddhist monks are vegetarians!

I am also a Buddhist, but since I have migrated to Perth, I think that it would be a big chance for me to change my religion to Christianity. There is a church near to where I live, and sometimes the priest (or something like that) will "advertise" the religion, encouraging non-Christian to join. I told my mom about that and she agreed (Of course, it's not now). So, I am in dilemma, can you please give me some opinion? (I worship Christian a lot, but I don't wish to betray Buddhism)

If that's your reason, then you better stick to your original religion. Why do you have to go and make things so complicated? Buddhism is possibly the best religion in the world. It stresses and preaches tolerance and peace. It never forces anyone to follow the faith, nor does it forbid its followers from renouncing the faith. Due to this 'tolerant' reason, lots of Westerners have been appealed to the teachings of this harmonious religion. They are willing to uncover the mysteries locked behind the veils of the mystical religion that has kept it from the eyes of the world for many centuries. They eventually achieved inner peace by devoting themselves wholeheartedly to the religion. Buddhism forbids all sorts of sacrifices and killings of animals. So, it's a religion of love and peace. This can also be seen in the Buddhist teaching of 'forgive and care for those who hate you, so that you will be forgiven and cared by others'. You just have to do good and be good for the rest of your life. Even though all religions are divine, there's no need to change. If you're satisfied with your current condition, where there's no unhappy or unlucky things going on, then you're probably blessed by the divine and merciful Lord Buddha.

I would advise you to try going to church for a start. No harm done, right?

Maybe you're right. But one can be addicted to that ever since. Who knows? One may be converted by soul without his or her knowledge. As we all know, these religions are concerned in getting new members to expand the number of adherents as well as to spread the teachings. This phenomenon is called proselytisation, which is done by clerics of Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, although examples of the latter are near to zero.

Maybe I will go to church to have a look. What a pity if you are the only Buddhist among all Christian friends. Lonely.

What's the pity? It makes you so unique and special among your friends. They might be curious and would love to know more about your religion. Then, you guys can hold a forum about interfaith where all religions are discussed and shared at the same time.

Just do what you feel is right. Nobody's forcing you.

I'm just offering my two cents' worth of opinion. You can ignore this if you want.

Well, try to live without any religion for a week or a month.

After being a termporary atheist, you will find that you need spiritual support a lot.

At that time, you will be in search for spiritual support from religion. Turn to the religion which you think offers the most comfort for your soul. You will feel calm and tranquility all the time with the right religion. But since you are now in a country with mostly Christians, our administrator might think that this move will only benefit Christianity.

Whatever you think, just follow your instinct, okay?

Good luck in choosing your religion. Another reminder here, any religion other than the underground movement is aimed to lead us towards kindness. There is no right or wrong in converting to another religion. Live a life of your own and do not care what others think about you as long as you know you are doing the right thing.

Speaking of freedom in religious issues...... Hmm...... I know there are several religions which are lack of democracy. I'm not trying to create any offence, and most importantly, I'm not doing it in purpose. Therefore, I need to extend my greatest apology here to those who're offended by the message I'm going to say. The religion that I know which are extremely (if not so) lack of democracy and freedom is Islam. Islam forbids any adherent of it to convert out of the religion and one who does that will be sentenced to death (if not so), according to the Sharia law, the Islamic law, which is prevalent in most traditional Islamic nations, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan. The rule is once you're born a Muslim, you'll forever be a Muslim, and it's a Muslim's obligation to please, submit and imply complete submission to the will of Allah (which is Arabic for God) and to declare that the last prophet, Prophet Muhammad as the messeger of Allah for the rest of his or her life. One will be accused of blasphemy and apostasy and that resembles the crime of treason, the betrayal of one's own country, which means death is the final solution to this. In contrast, a Muslim who lives in a Western country such as the U.S.A and France (or even other more liberated Muslim countries) will suffer no significant penalty for converting to another religion. Furthermore, Islam is one of the proselytising religions (including Christianity), which seeks converts from other faiths. It's so ironic that the religion forbids one from converting out of the faith, but on the other hand encourages others to convert to the Islamic faith. Due to this reason, Islam is currently the world's fastest growing religion.

In my opinion, if you have a special relationship with God, that implies you believe in God. God's protecting you for all times and keeping you away from all sins and evilness on Earth. If you believe in God, that means you have a religion. It seems that you've stated Christianity in the poll, and also your pseudonym is Christian. Although I don't know whether this is your real name or you're just trying to emphasise that you're a Christian, I can see that you're trying to find the true path to get to God, right? You have to fully comprehend your religion, then you'll find the greatest happiness and inner peace in your life. Good luck!

wow. that is a good question. i don't really know how to answer. Although i do admit that God would have to be the one to start the relationship, not me.

i guess i think of "religion" more as empty ritual or tradition that we go through to make us feel better.

i accually chose my name just for fun. I almost chose "Americhristian" because i think it's silly that most people in "america" calls themselves christian, but don't live a moral life, or pray.

That's true. Westerners tend to live a luxurious life, and they are likely to indulge in the materialistic world. They can spend thousands of dollars hunting for the most fashionable clothes, shoes and also spend a few nights in expensive suites without any hesitation. Religions seem to them a not-so-important aspect. Most Western nations have marked few church attendance. Some even haven't been to church for prayers for years. In contrast, Easterners view religions as an important aspect in their daily lives. Religion is not only a culture, but is also a way of life. Reports carried out in some Western nations have stated that the church attendance in those nations are pathetic, but the mosques within the Muslim community are always full. We can't deny the fact that each and every Muslim on Earth is very pious and loyal to his or her religion and is ready to defend the Islamic religion from harassment and attacks. It seems like most modern-day Westerners are religiously frail. Atheism is on a rapid rise in many Western nations. Money-worshippers are everywhere and is slowly becoming a modern sort of religion there. This religion has also started invading the other side of the world. If this situation keeps on incessantly, Christianity, which is the current world's largest religion, will certainly one day be superseded by Islam as the King of all religions.
