Japan is named Nippon/Nihon in Japanese, which literally means 'the origin of the sun'.



  • The Japanese flag, is a base white flag with a large red disc (representing the sun) in the centre, and is known as the Nisshohki or Hinomaru (sun disc) in Japanese.
